“We were 10 kilometres from Snihurivka when we found ourselves in a column of Russian tanks moving towards Mykolaiv. There were about a hundred items in the column.
“We were driving on because we did not know how to behave. Then one of the tanks drove off the column stopped in front of us and aimed its muzzle at us.
“Terrified, we got out of the car holding our hands up. They laughed at us and let us go.
“After leaving them behind, we saw several mutilated corpses on the motorway where the column had recently passed. Personal belongings were scattered around the dead. It was horrifying,” said Тatiana Podkamennaya to White Avenue.
The woman, who is a teacher and psychologist by education, was in her hometown of Snihurivka, in the Mykolaiv region, southern Ukraine, when Russian troops started to hit the place with heavy artillery.
“My husband and I were outside when we saw a signal rocket and fell on the ground with our faces down. Two awful bangs immediately followed.
“We dragged each other into a basement and sat there for several hours. It was on 13th March, on my husband's birthday,” Tatiana said.
