Russia has practically guaranteed the beginning of World War Three in the case of Ukraine's accession to NATO.

The relevant declaration was made by Aleksandr Venediktov, the deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council, earlier today and cited in Russian media.

“Kyiv is well aware that such a step would mean a guaranteed escalation to World War Three,” said Venediktov, according to reports.

The warning came after Ukraine asked for fast-track membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.

The relevant application for accelerated accession to NATO was signed on Friday and announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“De facto, we have already made our way to NATO. De facto, we have already proven compatibility with the Alliance’s standards. They are real for Ukraine - real on the battlefield and in all aspects of our interaction,” – said Zelensky.

All current Nato members have to accept Ukraine into the alliance. Nine countries out of 30, including Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia have given their consent so far.
