"Russia's violation of the Geneva Convention for the Protection of the Civilian Population in Time of War has led to significant losses in the infrastructure of the medical industry", said Viktor Lyashko, the Minister of Health of Ukraine.

According to the official, 906 medical institutions have been damaged since the Russian army started the full-scale war in Ukraine last February. About 15 per cent of the hospitals and healthcare facilities were almost completely destroyed and are beyond repair.

The numbers are apparently to be increased as a specially created commission is continuing to assess the condition of the government property. Moreover, it is not yet possible to assess the damage done in the temporarily occupied territories, for example in the city of Mariupol, Lyashko said to rbc.ua.

18 medics were killed while rescuing civilians in Ukrainian cities during shellings launched by the Russian troops. 59 civilian doctors suffered serious injuries and were hospitalised as of mid-August. Some of them still remain in hospital.

In total, 87 ambulances were put out of action after being fired upon or damaged by shrapnel. 241 ambulances were taken by Russians. The condition of the vehicles is currently not known.
